Builder Basic to Beautiful

3 easy steps to take your bathroom from basic to beautiful.

There's nothing wrong with a builder basic bathroom, but it's not hard or expensive to take that basic bathroom to the next level.

1. Update the flooring. We covered our old linoleum floors with grout-able vinyl tiles.  They were so easy to install.  Just peel and stick to a clean surface.  We used spacers and were able to grout them as soon as they were all down.  These dark gray tiles work in both our master bathroom and our boys' bathroom.

2. Paint.  Painting the walls and the cabinets brightened up these drab spaces. We went with a pale gray for the master and a really fun blue that matched the art work in the boys'  bathroom. For the cabinets we chose to use the same white that we have on our doors and trim.  After priming, painting and sealing the cabinets they looked completely different.  The countertops take on a new look as well when matched with the white cabinets and the color of the walls.

3. Change out the hardware. We changed out the knobs, toilet paper holders, towel rings and racks, hinges, etc. to give the space a classier look.  With the dark oil-rubbed bronze hardware these bathrooms look a little higher end than they did before.

Bathroom makeovers don't need to be expensive or take forever.  With these three easy steps any bathroom can have a new look.
