Sophia and I recently had the privilege of sharing some thoughts on living a balanced life with an amazing group of women. I am continually taught and uplifted by women who face their challenges with grace and strength. While we are all unique we are also all so similar and can learn so much from each other. As we become more in tune with our bodies, minds, spirits, and emotions we can become the best versions of ourselves.
It is with that in mind that I have chosen to share here one of the things I was able to share with the women that evening.
Here is a written script for a guided meditation that I came up with many months ago that helps me start my days out right. When I can fill myself with positivity and light first thing in the morning the day looks brighter and I can keep a better perspective even when things don't go my way:
Sitting comfortably with your head up and your shoulders back, place your hands on your knees, palms up, arms and hands relaxed. Close your eyes and focus on your breathing. Inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth. As you focus on your breath, clear your mind. As thoughts come into your mind thank them and let them float away.
In your mind's eye picture a light in the distance. With each breath you take the light is drawn closer to you. As you invite the light, you let go of all darkness. Breathe in the light and let go of negativity as you exhale. Repeat in your mind: "I breathe in light, I let go of darkness. I breathe in light, I let go of anger. I breathe in light, I let go of self-doubt. I breathe in light and I let go of fear. I breathe in light and let go of hurt. I breathe in light, I let go of shame. I breathe in light and let go of criticism." etc.
With each breath visualize the tendrils of light entering into you. As you let go of darkness, the light fills every part of you down to the soles of your feet. The light fills your arms to your fingertips. All that fills you is light.
Now, as you exhale you choose what light to send out into the world and surround yourself with. Repeat in your mind, "I breathe in light, I breathe out light. I breathe in light, I breathe out acceptance. I breathe in light, I breathe out kindness. I breathe in light, I breathe out love. I breathe in light, I breathe out peace." etc.
Take your right hand and place it over your heart. State in your mind or out loud the truth, light, and goodness that is in you. "I am a child of God. I am divine. I am a creative being. I am strong. I am beautiful. I am worthy of love. I am worthy to give love. I am brave. I am smart. I am kind." etc.
Bring your hands together, lower your head, and express gratitude to God for all that you have and all that you are.
